India’s horticulture sector has achieved a remarkable milestone in the year 2022-23, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare releasing its second advance estimates for various horticultural crops. The data indicates a significant increase in horticulture production.
The second advance estimates reveal that the total horticulture production in the country for 2022-23 is expected to reach an all-time high of 351.92 million tonnes, marking a substantial increase of about 4.74 million tonne (1.37 %) compared to the final figures for the year 2021-22, according to an official statement.
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, lauded the success of the horticulture sector. He emphasized that alongside food grains, horticulture has been continuously setting production records. He attributed this accomplishment to the dedication of Indian farmers, the efficiency of scientists, and the farmer-friendly policies implemented by the Central Government.
As per the data released by the Ministry , Vegetable production is estimated to be 212.91 million tonnes in 2022-23, a notable increase from the 209.14 million tonnes in the previous year. The production of plantation crops is expected to rise from 15.76 million tonnes in 2021-22 to 16.05 million tonnes in 2022-23, signifying a 1.78% increase. The data also reveals a substantial increase in potato production, with an estimated 60.54 million tonnes in 2022-23, compared to 56.18 million tonnes in 2021-22.
