Centre to launch these initiatives on agri-credit and crop insurance

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar are set to inaugurate a series of groundbreaking initiatives tomorrow with a primary focus on agri-credit (KCC & MISS) and crop insurance (PMFBY/RWBCIS), all aimed at the well-being of farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare is introducing these initiatives to revolutionize agriculture in India, with the overarching goals of enhancing financial inclusion, optimizing data utilization, harnessing cutting-edge technology, and ultimately improving the livelihoods of the agricultural community. The event is scheduled to take place at the Pusa complex in New Delhi and will feature key highlights such as:

1. Kisan Rin Portal (KRP)

The Kisan Rin digital platform, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, offers farmers a comprehensive overview of their data, loan disbursement specifics, interest subvention claims, and the progress of various agricultural schemes. This integrated platform is designed to seamlessly connect with banks, ensuring a more targeted and efficient allocation of agricultural credit.

2.Ghar-Ghar KCC Abhiyaan: Door to Door KCC Campaign

This development will also be accompanied by the launch of a door-to-door KCC campaign. As of March 30, there were approximately 7.35 crore KCC accounts with a total sanctioned limit of Rs 8.85 lakh crore.

Official data reveals that the government disbursed agricultural credit amounting to Rs 6,573.50 crore at subsidised interest rates during the April-August period of the current fiscal year. With the launch of the door-to-door campaign, the government aims to extend the benefits of the KCC program to non-KCC holders, particularly beneficiaries of the central scheme PM-KISAN, which provides Rs 6,000 per annum to each identified beneficiary farmer’s bank account.

3. Launch of WINDS Manual

In addition to the Kisan Rin Portal launch, the Agriculture Ministry is introducing a manual for the WINDS portal, which was initially launched in July. The WINDS portal leverage advanced weather data analytics to provide stakeholders with actionable insights on weather for informed decision-making in agriculture.

The comprehensive manual will also provide stakeholders with an in-depth understanding of the portal’s functionalities, data interpretation, and effective utilisation, empowering farmers, policymakers and various agricultural entities to make well-informed choices.
