Addressing the farmers, Dhankhar expressed deep appreciation for their significant role in the nation’s economy, emphasizing that being a farmer is a matter of pride. He stated, “Farmers are the backbone of the country’s economy, and when the farmer is happy, it brings happiness to the whole country, with prosperity permeating every section of society.”
Expressing delight at the farmers’ visit to the Parliament House, VP Dhankhar remarked that this was a special day as parliamentarians from around the world, including the G-20 nations, were visiting India. He further stated that the Parliament stands as the largest Panchayat in the country, and the farmers’ presence there was a testament to their rightful place in the nation’s decision-making process.
The Vice President also highlighted the immense trade and business opportunities available in agricultural products and food items, and urged farmers and their children to come forward and explore these avenues. He cited the example of milk and suggested that farmers could form groups and produce and sell various milk products such as buttermilk, curd, and cheese.
Stressing the need to boost farmers’ involvement in the trade and export of agricultural goods, Dhankhar underscored that farmers should enhance their role in value addition and the marketing of agricultural products. He also underlined the importance of modern technology and the formation of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and urged farmers to adopt them without hesitation.
Appealing to farmers to move ahead from routine, traditional agriculture Vice President suggested that they “think new, and diversify their farming activities into new areas.” He also emphasized that the farmers’ presence in the Parliament House was not due to an invitation, but their inherent right.
